Texas Longhorns QB Casey Thompson enters college football transfer portal

The quarterback for the Texas Longhorns is in the transfer portal.

Thompson started the season as the backup behind Hudson Card and eventually became the starter. He threw for 2,113 yards and had 24 touchdown passes. The Longhorns went 4-7 in those games and finished with a 5-7 season.

Thompson said that he played with a thumb injury.

After the Longhorns' last game against Kansas State, Sarkisian said he would be looking at the quarterback position.

He thinks we need to open that job back up.

Ewers, who was a five-star recruit at Ohio State, decided to transfer to Texas.

The four-star quarterback recruit from California was signed by the coach.

Ewers originally committed to Texas in high school, but switched to Ohio State in the middle of his senior year.

"He's a heck of a player, he's going to be a great player at Texas," said Sarkisian after Ewers signed with the Longhorns. He's a great talent. I think there's a sigh of relief for him. I think he wanted to be here. We can see how far we can go with the development of him in our system and with the players around him.

Charles Thompson was a backup to Sam Ehlinger for three seasons before getting his first extended playing time in the Alamo Bowl last December. He went 8 of 10 for 170 yards and four touchdown in a 55-23 win over Colorado.
