The Olympic squad snubbed a turning point in my career.

The omission from the Olympic team inspired him to go the extra mile this year. :44

After being left off the United States' Olympic qualification roster, FC Dallas and USMNT forward RicardoPepi called it a turning point in his season.

"It made me hungry," she said. It made me want to go on. It was a turning point in my career when I did good for my club and national team.

The initial 31 players were included in a training camp in March, but didn't make the cut when the roster was trimmed to 20 players. Three of the four forwards on the team's roster, Jonathan Lewis, BenjiMichel and Sebastian Soto, have not been involved in the senior side.

Since being left off the squad,Pepi has experienced a rise that has seen him become the starting No. 9 for the United States during World Cup qualification. The Bosnia and Herzegovina friendly in California on Saturday is being used to keep the players sharp ahead of next month's three-game qualification window.

After scoring 13 goals for FC Dallas in 2021,Pepi has been the subject of speculation about a European transfer, but he stayed coy about his club plans.

The moment is not yet decided. I feel like I have a game in front of me and that's my main focus at the moment. We have to be patient, but we have to focus on the game.

This year, his prospects have risen.

In August,Pepi chose to play for the United States over Mexico and since then he has scored three goals.

Jonathan Gomez is a former teammate ofPepi in the FC Dallas academy and he is on the US roster. Gomez trained with El Tri during the summer and has the option to play for Mexico or the United States. He will be moving to Spain in the January transfer window after spending the last two seasons with Louisville City in the USL Championship.

Gomez's decision about his international future is a decision that he is willing to be a sounding board for, according to Pepi.

He said he was always open to talking to them. I try to tell him to do what he thinks is best. Go with your heart.

The United States coach didn't rule out the possibility that Gomez could spell George Bello off the bench.

"It's been great having [Go] in camp," Berhalter said. He's a good competitor, technically good player, and he's maturing physically, still growing. Very competitive. It's been a pleasure working with him.

Berhalter said that Lennon would start at right back and earn his first USMNT cap. Walker Zimmerman, who has become an important piece of the U.S. backline, is expected to play the full 90 minutes.

Jordan Morris is expected to make his return to the starting lineup after being out for most of the year with a torn knee. He scored five goals in his last five appearances for the U.S.

"He's looked sharp the entire camp," Berhalter said. He had a long lay off. He got back into it with Seattle and they've done a great job of getting him back to a good point. He looks good. He looks sharp. I'm really looking forward to him performing tomorrow.

While he has been back in the fold after a long injury absence, Long is unlikely to feature in the full team sessions.

The United States will take a break after the game and will return in January. The USMNT will host El Salvador, Canada, and Honduras in January and February, respectively.

The USMNT is in second place with 15 points behind first place Canada, which has 16 points. The winner of the Oceania Football Confederation will play the third-place team in a single-leg qualification match for the World Cup in June.
