The new 9.1.5-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundbar features a novel upward firing center speaker that bounces dialogue off the celling and to your ears so you can hear clearly. The up-firing center is a world-first, and it is one of five here. The wireless rear speakers that are included in the soundbar can send audio to the side walls of the room, which could increase the audio experience.

The new up-firing center speaker adds to the clarity of the dialogue, but is still the same channel as the regular center. The same goes for the two extra side-firing drivers of the rear speaker pair. According to the company, its artificial intelligence Room Calibration can sync up everything.

The new soundbar, rear speakers, and included wireless sub all have a power output of over 800W. The S95QR is positioned as a premium soundbar and successor to the 7.1.4-channel LGSP11RA soundbar.

The new soundbar does not support passthrough for 4K 120Hz with HDR. If you have a newer 4K HDR TV and a Series X or PS5 you might not want to plug your game console directly into the bar. You should still get the benefit of variable refresh rate support.

The soundbar can be controlled using smart devices with the help of the internet. The new soundbar could be controlled using the same app as the older one, but it is not clear from the press release if the new one also has it.

The Wowcast audio dongle, which was originally released this past fall, is available on the UK page. The Wowcast is a device that makes it possible to run a cable between the TV and the soundbar. You can use it to stream an eARC connection between your TV and the soundbar. We expect a US release of the Wowcast along with the new soundbar.

The price or release date for the new S95QR was not shared by the company. The company will be showing off its products in a virtual booth at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show.
