The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson are aiming for a January return, with key dates coming up in January.

Sources said that the Warriors and Thompson haven't ruled out a game against the Miami Heat in January.

The Warriors want Thompson to come back at home in January, sources said.

Thompson played in three game-length scrimmages during a five-day stay with Santa Cruz in the G-League. Thompson's rehabilitation is complete, and he is working now to get his conditioning up so he can return to the Warriors team that is tied for the NBA's best record.

Thompson tore his left knee in Game 6 of the NBA Finals and tore his right Achilles in November 2020.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before Friday's game against the Boston Celtics that it was still unclear how the timing of Thompson's return would work, but that he would speak to Thompson, Warriors GM Bob Myers and Warriors director of sports medicine and performance Rick Celibrini.

"I don't know how it's going to work out right now," Kerr said. When we get back from this trip, I'll put my head together with Rick and Klay and we'll talk about it and Bob and we'll see where everything stands. I know he's doing well. He was in Santa Cruz this week and had a couple good days, but we don't have a date yet.

Kerr said it was possible for Thompson to get back to the Warriors' G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz over the next couple of weeks for some more scrimmage work.

Kerr said yes. "If we deem that is the best place for him to get a scrimmage in, then that will happen again."
