New York state reports highest number of daily Covid cases of entire pandemic at more than 21,000

New York state had the highest number of new Covid cases in a single day on Thursday.

The rate of positive Covid tests doubled in a few days, according to the state health department.

Hochul said in a press release Friday that the winter surge in COVID-19 cases is a reminder that the Pandemic is not over yet.

As the U.S. battles surging cases caused by the Covid delta variant, the latest report comes as the newly discovered omicron variant spreads rapidly. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention reported that Omicron made up 13.1% of all Covid cases in the New York and New Jersey region last week.

Health officials want people to get a booster shot as soon as possible. The data shows that people with a booster shot are more protected against Covid variant than people with just one of the Johnson & Johnson shots.

There were more than 129,000 vaccine doses administered in New York on Thursday.

The Rockette's "Christmas Spectacular" at Radio City Music Hall and "Moulin Rouge!" have been canceled due to covid outbreak. The musical is on Broadway.
