The New York Knicks will be without guard Immanuel Quickley for Saturday's road game against the Boston Celtics after he was placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols on Friday.
In his second NBA season, Quickley has averaged 10 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebound in 29 appearances for the Knicks.
The 2020 first-round pick played a key role in New York's 116-103 win over the Houston Rockets on Thursday night. He had 24 points on seven three-pointers and four boards in 32 minutes.
The University of Kentucky product joked about taking extra precautions after the game, as COVID-19 cases started to mount within the team's roster.
Quickley told Bondy of the New York Daily News that he had been showering with his mask on.
It wasn't enough to keep him off the Knicks' protocol list. He is joined by Obi Toppin.
The NBA All-Rookie Second Team was voted on by the fans, and Quickley was a part of it.
There was no timetable for his return.
Until players clear protocols, the Knicks will have to use a makeshift rotation. There could be an increase in playing time for both Wayne Selden and Miles McBride in the short term.
New York's depth issues were further compounded by the fact that Derrick Rose left Thursday's game with an ankle injury. It could allow Kemba Walker to rejoin the rotation.
The Knicks will host the Pistons at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night after their clash with the Celtics.
