Next year, Musk's company will attempt to launch a spaceship into space for the first time, which could make Musk's dream of going to Mars a reality.

It will be the most powerful rocket ever launched into space, able to generate more than twice the amount of thrust as the Saturn V rocket, which took astronauts to the Moon half a century ago.

Mr Musk hopes that the first orbital flight will be made by the company in January.

Mr Musk told a forum of space scientists in November that there was a lot of risk associated with the first launch, but that they would make a lot of progress.

The vehicle is a two stage rocket, the bottom part is a powerful booster called Super Heavy, on top sits a 50m (164ft) spaceship called Starship, all up, it stands 120m tall.

Super Heavy will have six engines, while Starship will have 29 of them.

It will be able to haul 100 tonnes of cargo into space.

A senior research fellow at the Open University, Barber has spent his career developing instruments that will work in space, on planets and other bodies.

He says that ship will be a re-usable transportation system, which will make it cheaper.

In the future, they want to use every liter of fuel to get a human to Mars, because it's already free from Earth's gravity. They would like to go to Mars for the return trip to Earth.

It's a way of zipping around the solar system without towing a massive fuel tank behind you.

The firms that make computer chips are having a hard time meeting demand.

If you've been waiting for a new car or a new game console, you've been at the end of a global shortage of computer chips.

The technology industry has been frustrated.

The production of computer chips was disrupted by the Pandemic. Some electronics firms decided to close production lines that were not profitable.

Consumers, stuck at home, bought electronic devices, which led to a surge in demand for chips.

There is no immediate solution to the shortage caused by the combination.

"Supply demand balance probably won't be coming back anytime soon, probably going well into 2022," says Wayne Lam, an analyst at CCS Insight.

It takes time to get new production lines up and running because companies are investing heavily to meet demand.

It will take the makers of cars and electronics another two or three months to increase production when chipmakers catch up with demand.

The chip shortage is making production unpredictable, according to the SMMT.

"There are no quick fixes, with shortages expected well into next year," says SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes.

One of the world's leading fusion research projects is the JET Tokamak.

If fusion could be harnessed on Earth, it would provide a plentiful source of energy from only a tiny amount of fuel and produce no carbon dioxide.

Extreme temperatures and pressures are needed to spark a fusion reaction. Scientists and engineers have been working on this problem for decades, and in recent years have made progress.

One of the world's leading fusion projects is located in the UK. The government will announce next year where it will locate the prototype fusion power plant, designed to be running by 2040.

The UK has already committed over two hundred million dollars to the fusion project and will be competing with other national programmes and private initiatives to make the project a reality.

The hottest place in the Solar System is being created by a nuclear fusion reactor.

Next year could be the beginning of a revolution in home heating.

The UK will be offering subsidies of £5,000 to households to install heat pumps.

The idea is that government subsidies will encourage households to make the switch.

It is part of the government's plan to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. The Climate Change Committee says that moving heating away from gas is important to meet the target.

The race is on to develop alternatives to gas boilers because new homes will not be allowed to have gas heating in 25 years.

The microwave system will be tested in houses.

Next year, another alternative to gas will be tested.

In the summer of 2022, Heat Wayv will install heating units that use microwave technology in the UK.

The firm says that its units will be cheaper to run than a gas boiler over the lifetime of the unit, but those calculations depend on the relative prices of gas and electricity.

The unit will go into full-scale production in the Spring of 2023 once the company has reviewed the tests results.
