Critics have gotten to see Resurrections, the fourth movie in The Matrix franchise, but it won't be released until next week. If you are a fan, you will most likely love the film, and how it cleverly retextualizes and builds upon the original trilogy while metaly examining its own existence as a sequel made 18 years after the last movie. The romance between Neo and Trinity, as well as new stars Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Jonathan Groff, were praised by them. Everyone agrees that the Lana Wachowski-directed film is better than The Matrix: Reloaded and Revolutions.
Those who were critical of the film found the lack of stakes frustrating and some had other concerns, but those opinions were few and far between. You can make your own decision when The Matrix: Resurrections comes to theaters and then to the Max on December 22. Here is a collection of the early reactions, starting with io9's own Germain Lussier.
