‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ snares $50 million in Thursday previews, sets sights on $200 million opening weekend

Tom Holland plays Spider-Man in the movie.

The Spider-Man franchise is already in the company of record-setting movies.

The film sold $50 million in tickets from Thursday previews. That is the third highestgrossing movie of all time, behind only "Avengers: Endgame" and "Stars Wars: The Force Awakens"

The debut of this is monumental, said Paul Dergarabedian.

Cinemark said it had its biggest opening night ever for a movie, and AMC said it was the second highest grossing movie of all time.

Cinemark's shares jumped 3% on Friday, while AMC's soared 21%.

The hottest movie for Thursday previews since the release of "Avengers: Endgame" was sold by Fandango, setting a new record for top ticket seller of the year.

The box office analysts said that "No Way Home" would easily surpass $100 million at the domestic box office, and that they were rethinking how high Spider-Man can swing after the preview results.

Analysts are now estimating a weekend haul of $200 million, up from the initial projection of $130 million, due to positive word of mouth and repeat viewings.

Critics have praised Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film.

Everyone thought the movie theater wouldn't return, but they didn't understand the power of a movie and a character like Spider-Man to bring passionate movie fans to the multiplex.
