The team announced on Friday that Paul Maurice had resigned.

Maurice was the Jets coach for nine seasons, amassing a record of over 300 victories.

The team's assistant coach has agreed to become the interim head coach.

The Jets have 31 points in 28 games. Their points percentage is ninth in the conference. They've been struggling since mid-November. The Jets lost 4-2 to the Buffalo Sabres on December 14th, their only win in their past four games.

The Jets have a good chance of making the playoffs.

The Jets are 15th in goals per game and 13th in goals against per game.

The Jets made the playoffs in five of eight full seasons under Maurice, but only made the Western Conference final once. In the second round last season, the Jets lost to the Montreal Canadiens.

Maurice was the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Hartford Whalers, and he was the fourth-most tenured coach in NHL history. He has six career wins and one career loss.
