A judge in Iowa made sure that Steven Vogel will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing a black man in 2020. The murderer received a life sentence without the possibility of parole after a jury voted to convict him of murder and abuse of a corpse.
Judge Shawn Showers gave the news to the legal team. The District 8A judge called him a cold-blooded murderer with hate in his heart.

He said that the sentences were made for people like you who commit horrible offenses and take other peoples lives without regard for consequences.
On September 16, 2020, the body of Michael Williams was found burning in a ditch. Williams was killed four days before the corpse was burned and he died of strangulation.
Four people were arrested in connection to the murder. The death of Williams changed the person who knew him. The other three people were charged with abuse of a corpse, destruction of evidence, and as accessories to the crime.
According to reports, the killing was linked to a love triangle between Williams, his girlfriend, and Vogel.
The State said that the jealousy of the man was the reason he wanted to kill the man.
Three people testified that they were told that he killed Black Mike. One witness said that Williams was clubbed in the head and hung by a rope.
The judge said to Vogel that he was why Iowa has life without the possibility of parole. You shouldn't be on the streets. You should not be going to a parole board. You are a killer.
He said that you will have the rest of your life to think about what you did, the loss and the pain that you caused, and the precious life that you ended.
Showers said that you treated Michael Williams like he was not human. You hit him. He was murdered to death. He was kept in the basement like an animal. You put his body on fire. You made Michael Williams look bad. Mr. Williams did not deserve that.
The judge gave Vogel the chance to speak in defense of himself. He didn't choose to. The man that took Williams' life was the subject of the family's comments in the courtroom.
