NBA: Brooklyn Nets must manage Kevin Durant game time

The NBA's fourth most minutes per game is averaged by Kevin Durant, who missed most of the season with an injury.

Steve Nash says that the Nets need to find a way to manage the game time of Kevin Durant.

In the Nets' 114-105 win over the 76ers, the Nets got a season-high 48 minutes from their leading scorer.

Brooklyn only had nine players available because of the NBA's health and safety protocols, but they had suffered with injuries of their own.

"I don't know if we can continue to rely on him the way we have," said Nash.

It doesn't feel right.

He's enjoying playing at a high rate. It's not safe to lean on him like that.

We have to figure out ways to give him breaks and there has to be a lot of consideration.

How new cases of Covid have affected sporting events.

The NBA and its players agreed to introduce strict coronaviruses protocols over the Christmas and New Year period in response to rising virus numbers in North America.

The league said testing will be increased from December to January. In most team activities, masks must be worn again when on the bench, in meetings, in the locker room, and in the training room.

When playing on-court and for head coaches, there will be no exceptions.

The NBA has seen a surge of positive cases with the Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings.

Seven players, including shooting guard James Harden, are out for the Nets with the league's Covid-19 protocols.

The Bulls had to delay two games this week because 10 players couldn't play.

Lakers guard Russell Westbrook and Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo, who have both been named as the league's most valuable player in recent seasons, are other big-name stars out of action as they follow protocols.

The Detroit Pistons lost their 13th consecutive game as they were beaten by the Indiana Pacers.

The Pistons are one loss away from tying the franchise record for consecutive defeats in a single season, which was set in 1993-94, after Caris LeVert scored a season-high 31 points and added five assists for the Pacers.

In Texas, the New York Knicks defeated the Houston Rockets 116-103, while the Phoenix Suns defeated the Washington Wizards 118-98.
