Apple is on track to complete its two-year transition to custom Silicon, but the company's Mac Pro still runs on a combination of Intel andAMD chips. It seems like an update with Apple Silicon is just about due since the Pro is Apple's most powerful computer.
New evidence shows that the transition to in-house M-series chips is a matter of when, not if. Dylandkt posted in a thread that they found three displays encased in un branded enclosures.
The panels have the same specifications as those on the upcoming iMac and iMac Pro all-in-ones, and the third is said to be for an upgraded 32-inch Pro Display XDR monitor. The leaker claims that there is a reference to the 32-inch model using custom Silicon, which could be the Apple timing controller chip found in the current model.
What does this mean for the Mac Pro? Apple launched the Pro Display XDR as a companion monitor to the Mac Pro in order to make it easier to use. Digital Trends points out that if Apple updates the Pro Display XDR display next year, it will be followed by an M-powered Mac Pro.
We wouldn't normally look into these types of rumors given the lack of evidence, however, this anonymous leaker has a good track record. The website Apple Tracks gave Dylandkt a 77.5% score, putting them in seventh place, ahead of two other prominent leakers.
The second part of the rumor will appeal to you if you don't have the money to buy a monitor for your desktop. There is a chance that Apple could be preparing smaller monitors.
Mark Gurman reported in January that Apple was planning to release a smaller, more affordable Apple monitor meant for everyday consumers.
The miniLED panels found on the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are the same technology found on the 27 and 32-inch models, so I use the term "affordable" lightly. The two larger monitors will support 120Hz refresh rates.
Apple needs to keep the price down if it wants to appeal to anyone who isn't filthy rich, and it's not clear if the same treatment will be given to the 24 inch monitor.
