Sam Waterston Returning For ‘Law & Order’ Revival

Sam Waterston, one of the longest-running cast members on the classic NBC procedural drama Law & Order, will return as fan-favorite district attorney Jack McCoy for the revived show's 21st season, it was announced Thursday.

He played the role for 17 years, from 1994 until 2010, when the show ended.

Dick Wolf said that he had never received a casting announcement like this before, and described McCoy as the ultimate conscience of the show.

The franchise has spawned several successful spin-offs over the years.

Anthony Anderson is also going to return, along with new cast members Jeffrey Donovan, Hugh Dancy, Camryn Manheim and Odelya Halevi.

Waterston was last seen as McCoy in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He was nominated for a Golden Globe, three Emmys and 11 Screen Actors Guild Awards for his work in the show.
