Netflix's Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender Casts Azula and More

Elizabeth Yu, a newcomer, will play the troubled Fire Nation princess who becomes twisted under her father's emotionally abusive tutelage and serves as one of the series' biggest threats after Prince Zuko joins Team Avatar in later seasons. The Water Tribe leader and grandmother of Katara and Sokka will be played by a Native rights advocate. Gran-Gran.

Several members of the Earth Kingdom have been announced. The leader of the Kyoshi warriors, an elite group of all-female fighters, will be played by Maria Zhang. The Good Doctor's Tamlyn Tomita will play the mother and the mayor of the village on Kiyoshi Island. Yvonne Chapman will play Kyoshi herself, the deceased Avatar who preceded Aang. In the first season of the show, Kyoshi is a statue in the Air Nomad temple, but she doesn't appear until the second season. Book Two: Earth, first as a vision experienced by Aang, and later as a vision in his body. There is a chance that Kiyoshi could play a bigger role in the adaptation than she did in the animated series.

The adaptation of The Last Airbender is currently in production and has no release date.
