Multiple tornadoes touched down in several Midwest states late evening on Friday, December 10.

The tornadoes that devastated the Midwest and parts of the South this weekend were some of the deadliest on record.

When one hit 2 miles from her house, she missed her warehouse shift.

The HR team at Amazon couldn't excuse her shift because they didn't have a record of tornadoes in Kentucky.

The storm last Friday was different than the one she used to chase as a teenager.

She told Insider that it became pitch white from the rain. It had a strange feeling to it.

The tornadoes that ripped through the Midwest and parts of the South on Friday night were some of the worst on record, killing more than 70 people in Kentucky alone. She said that one tornado landed two miles away from Campbell's home in Taylor County.

Campbell left at 1:45 a.m. for her Saturday shift at the Amazon warehouse in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She took the job as a picker because she could help her sister, a single mother.

Campbell was turned back by police when she was on her way to the sheep farm that was destroyed by the storm. The only place she could find cell service was in a church, and she called Amazon's HR team.

Campbell said she was unable to make it to her shift due to the tornado damage. She was told by an ERC representative that it had no record of the twisters. Campbell's attendance record was put in negative UPT because of missing work, a status that she said could threaten her job.

Amazon gives its workers paid time off and not paid time off. Campbell said that taking more than the allotted UPT can be grounds for dismissal. This is consistent with what employees of Amazon have told Insider before.

Campbell tried to reach a company executive on the social networking site.

Dave Clark, Amazon's retail chief, posted a message on his verified account acknowledging the Amazon workers killed by a tornado. Six people have died at that facility.

I'm an Amazon worker in Kentucky and the tornado hit 2 miles from my house, I couldn't get to work for my shift. I was told by the ERC team that they didn't have a record of tornadoes in Kentucky, so I couldn't get attendance time reduced.

Clark was among the wave of responses to Campbell's tweet.

He wrote that he would get it fixed for everyone.

Campbell told Insider that he didn't think it would take off. I never expected him to see it.

The sheep farm in Taylor County, Kentucky, was damaged by Friday's tornadoes.

After Clark replied, Campbell said she received a call back from the ERC, which once again told her there was no record of tornadoes in the area, and advised her to bring the matter up at her next shift.

She got another call after that.

Campbell said the person seemed very excited. She was told by an HR rep that she would be paid for the 11 hours she missed.

Insider reached out to Amazon about Campbell. A person did not reply. The company has previously said that if they feel it's not safe to travel, they can stay at home.

Campbell said she was shocked that Amazon would give her back the time and pay her, and even repeated it on the phone to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Campbell told Insider that she believes she would have been fired if Clark didn't see her.

Campbell told Insider she still wants to work at Amazon, but hopes the partnership will be improved.

Campbell said it was like "Oh, we're gonna put you in a system and what the system says, you do." It's sad because the human element is missing.
