Warner Bros. Is Sticking to Theaters in 2022

Warner Bros.' decision to release all of its 2021 cinematic offerings in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously has been a delight for those of us who didn't like visiting the outside world. WB has no plans to do the same in 2022.

Warner Bros. CEO Ann Sarnoff said at a Bloomsberg conference that the company's movies will only be released in theaters, no matter what the situation is. The CEO said that they had made their commitments to the theaters and the agents. Everyone was hoping that we would be on the other side of the epidemic by now.

Me too, Ann! We are not on the other side because it has been blocked off by a bully named the omicron variant. If WB signed contracts promising a theatrical-only release and tried to change their minds, they would be inviting the sort of lawsuits that Disney was sued for when they released Black Widow on the Disney+ streaming service.

I am not going to be watching a lot of movies in my home because of this. The WB has a movie slate next year that includes The Batman, The Flash, the Aquaman sequel, Black Adam, and the DC superhero films. The Salem's Lot remake is one of the movies due next year.

Warner Bros. can change its mind at any time, and it may have to do so, depending on how the epidemic continues. We will see.
