At least five children were killed and several others were left severely injured in the Australian city of Devonport on Thursday after a bouncy castle was blown into the air by strong winds, causing them to plummet more than 30 feet.

According to the Morning Herald, five children died at the location, two of them in the hospital.

Most of the children are in critical condition.

The incident took place on Thursday morning in Devonport, located in the northwestern part of the state.

It is not known how the inflated castle became airborne, but the victims were at the end of the year celebrations.

All of the victims were between the ages of 5 and 6 years old, which means they were probably between the ages of 10 and 12 years old.

The incident is being investigated by the police and WorkSafe.
