The musician is one of the most successful rock stars.

The master recordings and publishing rights for Bruce's life's work were sold to Sony for a reported $500m.

According to multiple US reports, the deal gives Sony ownership of his 20 studio albums, including classics like Born To Run and The River.

Last year, his music generated about 15 million dollars.

His deal is similar to those of Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Blondie.

Dylan sold his catalogue of more than 600 songs to Universal Music Group in December of last year for $300m, after Warner Music bought the worldwide rights to his music in September.

The deals provide immediate financial security to the artists and their estates, while the rights-holders hope to profit by building new revenue streams for the music via film and TV licensing, merchandise, cover versions and performance royalties.

At an investor relations meeting in May, Sony Music's chief executive said the company had spent over a billion dollars on acquisitions. The rights to Paul Simon's back catalogue were obtained in a multi-million dollar deal.

If the numbers reported by the bible are correct, it would be the most expensive deal so far.

Representatives for Sony and Springsteen did not respond to questions from the BBC about the sale.

He was raised in New Jersey and once said he wanted to make an album with words like Bob Dylan and Phil Spector.

It's a key to understanding his broad appeal because it's a neat encapsulation of his style.

Jon Landau reviewed one of his shows with The E Street Band in Boston in 1974, cementing his reputation.

"I saw rock'n'roll past flash before my eyes at the Harvard Square theatre last Thursday," he wrote. I saw a rock and roll future and it's called Bruce Springsteen. He made me feel like I was listening to music for the first time when I needed to feel young.

Born In The USA sold 15 million copies in the US and 30 million worldwide.

After his huge success, he left The E Street Band and went to work with a different band, but his marriage to an actress ended in divorce after he fell in love with his backing singer.

The star's concerts can go on for three and four hours.

After reconvening the E Street Band at the turn of the millennium, he entered a creative hot-streak that has yet to fade - with highlights including 2002's The Rising, a response to the terror attacks of 9/11, 2012's politically-charged Wrecking Ball and 2019.

He played the Super Bowl Half-Time show 10 years after he was in the Rock Hall of Fame.

His life and career were chronicled in a series of one-man Broadway shows called Born To Run.

His last album, Letter To You, was released in 2020 and he made guest appearances on songs by The Killers and Bleachers this year.
