We reported last week that CD Projekt was in talks to settle a class-action lawsuit over the debacle of Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt says that the negotiations are over and that it will pay $1,850,000USD.
The settlement will likely have to be approved by a court, but it sounds like the lead plaintiffs and their lawyers negotiated for a small amount of money in exchange for dropping all of their claims against the company. The game had a development budget of over $316 million, which was recouped in digital pre-orders alone, and didn't see a huge impact from refunds.
Maybe the case wasn't very interesting. This lawsuit was brought by shareholders who believed they were misled by the company about financial performance, not the people who bought the game. The company has seen its stock price fall 54 percent since last year, despite the game's seemingly decent sales.
CD Projekt has repeatedly promised to fix the game, and issued a series of patches, suggesting it might eventually become the game it promised. In October, the company announced that updates for Cyberpunk and The Witcher 3 would be delayed. The company apologized for the extended wait.
