Trump ally Jim Jordan forwarded Mark Meadows argument for Mike Pence to reject Biden electoral votes

Jim Jordan is a Republican from Ohio on Capitol Hill.

Jim Jordan forwarded a message to the White House chief of staff, arguing that Vice President Mike Pence should reject certain Electoral College votes.

NBC News confirmed that Jordan sent a text to Meadows, one of many messages that the House select committee shared publicly this week as it pursued a criminal contempt referral against Trump's former chief of staff.

A source told NBC News that the text had been passed on by Jordan and was written by Joseph Schmitz, a former Pentagon inspector general and Trump campaign aide. He could not be reached for comment.

The message said that the act of calling out all electoral votes that the vice president believes are unconstitutional would be in line with judicial precedence and guidance from Alexander Hamilton.

The legally dubious argument that Pence could refuse to count electoral votes in any state was rejected by him.

The way in which Trump's allies were sharing ideas about how to change the outcome of the democratic election was given insight by the argument forwarded to the president's top aide.

Jordan was a close ally of Trump and worked with him on the conservative House Freedom Caucus. The lawmaker from Ohio was one of many House Republicans who voted to challenge the election results that favored Biden.

CNBC asked for comment on the text sent to Meadows, but the spokesman for Jordan did not reply.

The facts and causes of the deadly January 6 invasion are being investigated by a select committee. Many of the rioters were spurred by Trump's false claims that the 2020 election had been rigged against him.

The House voted on Tuesday night to hold Meadows in contempt of Congress for disobeying a subpoena to sit for a deposition. The committee says that Meadows had agreed to answer questions before abruptly backing out. The select panel has been sued by the Meadows for invalidating two of its subpoenas, arguing that Trump has asserted executive privilege over his testimony.

The committee has revealed some of the records of Meadows. They shared messages from Donald Trump Jr. and other pro-Trump Fox News hosts who were worried about the Capitol riot.

He has to condemn this asap. The vice chair of the select committee said that the Capitol Police post was not enough.

In that meeting, Adam Schiff read aloud a portion of Jordan's message to Meadows, without naming Jordan as the sender.

On January 6, 2021, the Vice President should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all, according to the text sent to the congressman.

The quote was displayed as a complete sentence. The office of Jordan argued to NBC that the message was misrepresented because it did not include some of the language that Jordan sent.

The graphic added a period at the end of the quote read by Schiff, according to a spokesman for the select committee. The Select Committee is responsible for the mistake.

The full text message record was sent to CNBC.

It states that Vice President Mike Pence should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all on January 6, 2021. Alexander Hamilton wrote that no legislative act can be valid. The court in Hubbard v. Lowe said that an unconstitutional statute is not a law at all.
