The top class after the first day of the early signing period was claimed by Texas A&M.

Texas A&M has been climbing in the class rankings over the last few weeks and has finally pulled ahead of Alabama for the top spot.

Walter Nolen, the top prospect in the country, was signed by the Aggies after reports surfaced that he might be interested in Tennessee. Kam Dewberry, Anthony Lucas, and Enai White all committed to Jimbo Fisher and his staff.

Jake Johnson is the brother of former LSU quarterback Max Johnson, who is transferring from the LSU program.

Five-star wide receiver Shazz Preston, defensive back Earl Little Jr., defensive tackle Khurtiss Perry, and outside linebacker Jihaad Campbell were added to the staff of Nick Saban. Alabama has 19 commitments, three five-stars and 11 ranked inside the top 100, coming out of Wednesday.

Texas A&M and Alabama are ranked third and fourth, respectively. Kamari Wilson, a five-star safety who committed to Florida, missed out on a commitment from Marvin Jones Jr.

The SEC schools got in on the action with Tennessee and auburn both getting big commitments. Robert Woodyard, who had been committed to Alabama and Keionte Scott, was able to get a scholarship from auburn.

The biggest news of the day was the flip of five-star defensive back from Florida State to Deion Sanders' alma mater. Jackson State became the first school in the country to sign a five-star prospect. In October, Hunter made his commitment to Florida State official. He was part of a historic class that ranks in the top 50 when he visited Jackson State in November.

Texas has moved up in the rankings in the past few weeks.

Prior to the early signing period, the Longhorns got a commitment from transfer quarterback, who originally signed with Ohio State as the No. 1 prospect overall in the class. He reclassified into the class of 2021, but has now moved to Texas. The Longhorns were able to get commitments from two offensive linemen who had previously committed to Oregon.

Texas flipped four athletes, including a defensive back from Ohio State, a defensive end from Michigan, and a four-star athlete from Oklahoma.

Michigan had a big day. The Big Ten Championship and the win over Ohio State have given the UM's a boost. The staff flipped Alex Orji from Virginia Tech, got a commitment from defensive end Derrick Moore, as well as other recruits.

The race to the top for a few classes is not over with some of the top recruits still on the board. Domani Jackson and Denver Harris are going to announce their commitments on Friday. Harris is considering Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas and LSU.

Two players will announce at the All-America game on January 2, and one player will announce at the game on January 8.

The race for the best class will not be over until the rest of the top recruits commit and sign on the dotted line.
