Dune's Denis Villeneuve Making Arthur C. Clarke Story Next

Denis Villeneuve needs to complete Dune. The director has a to-do list. He just signed on to helm another sci-fi classic from Arthur C. Clark. The award-winning 1973 novel, "Renoir with Rama", will be directed by Villeneuve.

Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosov, co-CEOs of Alcon, said in a press release that this is one of the most intelligent works of fiction in the genre. It is perfect for our friend and co-conspirator Denis, who is a huge fan of science fiction. We are happy to work with Morgan and Lori who have a long-standing passion for this intellectual property. Revelations Entertainment owned the film rights before Alcon took them over.

If you didn't know, the movie "Renoir with Rama" sounds like it would be a perfect fit for the director. It is the story of Earth detecting an alien spaceship coming into our solar system, and the mission humanity mounts to go meet it. It sounds like a story with a Dune and Arrival mixed together. The man who directed those movies is the perfect person to make this new film.

Fight Club director David Fincher is attached to direct, but the rights to the movie have been owned by the company for several years. They were not able to get a script or financing. Alcon made another adaptation of a legendary sci-fi author's work with: Blade Runner 2049, based on the work of Philip K. Dick.

With Dune: Part Two scheduled for release in 2023, one would imagine at least two years after that would be the earliest we would see it.
