Fauci Says ‘No Need’ For Omicron-Specific Vaccine Booster

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said Wednesday that there is no need for a vaccine tailored for the omicron variant.

A study by the U.K. Health Security Agency found that existing booster shots could protect against mild Covid symptoms.
Fauci urged those who are unvaccinated to get a booster shot and those who are eligible to get a full vaccine.

According to the CDC, 27% of the U.S. population have received a booster shot.

Concerns over whether the vaccines available could be effective in fighting the heavily mutated strain were raised by Fauci. A study from South Africa said the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine provides 70% protection against hospitalization and 33% protection against the variant.
