Deion Sanders flips No. 2 overall college football recruit Travis Hunter from Florida State to Jackson State on national signing day

The first five-star high school football prospect to sign with an NCAA team since 2006 has been flipped by the No. 2 ranked recruit in the country.

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders teased before the start of the early signing period that he was going to pull off something historic, and now he has pulled away a five-star defensive back from his alma mater.

Hunter, a 165-pound prospect from Collins High School in Suwanee, Georgia, had committed to Florida State.

Hunter said in his post that Florida State has always been a beacon for him. I never doubted that I would play for the FSU, I grew up down there.

It's a dream that is hard to let go of, but sometimes we are called to step into a bigger future than we imagined for ourselves. Jackson State University is where that future is for me.

He had visited Georgia during his recruiting process, sparking rumors that he might switch to the school. Hunter said on social media that he was not decommitting in October.

Hunter went to Jackson State to see the team defeat Alcorn State.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities have a rich history in football. I want to be a part of that history and future. I am making this decision so that I can light the way for others to follow, and make it easier for the next player to know that HBCU's may be everything they want and more.

He signed his son, quarterback Shedeur, along with four other prospects from the class of 2021.

Hunter is the highest ranked commit Jackson State had signed at the time, but Shedeur was the highest ranked.
