Travel testing measures to be reviewed in first week of January

The countries on the red list will be removed from the list at 4am.

All testing measures will be reviewed in January.

There will be no countries on the red list for England from 4am on Wednesday December 15. The arrivals from South Africa, and other countries on the list, no longer need to stay in a hotel for 10 days.

The current testing rules state that travellers must take a pre-departure Covid test in their destination and then return to the UK with their result, regardless of their vaccine status.

The Omicron variant has community transmission in the UK and the rules were brought in to combat it.

Shapps said: "As always, we keep all our travel measures under review and we may impose new restrictions should there be a need to do so to protect public health."
