Dell’s wire-free webcam could one day eradicate Zoom side-eye

Dell wants the future of webcams to be more than a place on top of a monitor, it wants to be a place where you can move around. The company showed off its ultra-repairable Luna laptop concept along with aWebcam. The Concept Pari adds magnets that would make it easier to place your screen on the floor, which means you could finally make eye contact, instead of automatically giving people side-eye.

The Concept Pari looks like a typicalWebcam. Dell made it so that you can remove the cylindrical camera housing from its dock, so that you can carry around the 1oz camera in your hand. The camera has a built-in mic and is connected to the internet. Dell notes that it comes with a vertical indicator light that helps you maintain alignment as you use the camera freehandedly.

The magnetic backing on the Concept Pari allows you to stick the camera anywhere on the monitor.

If you don't want to stare into the face of a soullessWebcam during virtual meetings, the Concept Pari comes with a magnetic backing that will allow you to stick the camera anywhere on your monitor. You should be able to maintain eye contact while looking at the person on your screen if you place the camera above the person's head.

When you are done with a meeting, you can reverse the camera in its dock so that it is facing away from you, giving you more privacy. Dell will charge when it is in this situation. The idea of a webcam isn't for sale just yet, but it's a concept that doesn't seem too unrealistic to see a lot of people adopting.
