AirPods Max Launched One Year Ago Today

One year ago today, Apple made the new over- ear headphones, called AirPods Max, available to purchase.

Apple's first branded over- ear headphones are a premium option for customers looking for over- ear headphones. The launch of the headphones was deemed imminent for the majority of 2020.

The knit mesh canopy is flexible to fit different head sizes. The headphones are made of metal and come in five colors.

The Digital Crown, a press to invoke Siri, and a Side Button for toggling on or off Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode are all innovations from the Apple Watch. The H1 chip from Apple powers tight integration with Apple devices, such as easy pairing and automatic device switch, and it's similar to all of the other headphones.

Apple's own Beats line of headphones are more affordable than the $549 price of the AirPods Max. Reviews of the headphones have been positive, applauding them for being more than enough to compete with other high-end headphones.

The design of the "Smart Case" and poor battery life were criticized by some for the design of the AirPods Max.

Since the initial demand was so high, they've become much more readily available with third-party retailers sometimes even offering discounts of $100 or more.
