Disney+ Gains SharePlay Support for Watching With Friends on FaceTime Calls

Disney has updated its Disney+ app with support for SharePlay on the Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone.

SharePlay allows users to watch Disney+ series and movies on a call with their friends and family while on the go. The entire Disney+ catalog of content is available through SharePlay.

SharePlay can be started by opening the Disney+ app and tapping on the content you want to watch. SharePlay sessions have shared controls like play, pause, fast forward, and rewind.

Disney said in a press release that SharePlay sessions can include up to 32 people and offer each participant in the FaceTime call the ability to choose audio and subtitles in their preferred language. GroupWatch co-viewing will continue to be available to Disney subscribers around the world.

The latest version of the Disney+ app is required for SharePlay support. Disney+ does not offer a Mac app, but SharePlay is available on the Mac.

Other apps that support SharePlay include Apple TV+, Apple Music, TikTok, Paramount+, SHOWTIME, and the NBA app. Last month, Apple said SharePlay support was coming to other companies.
