Toyota gives first glimpse of its upcoming electric pickup

At an event in Japan, Toyota spoke about its plans for battery-powered vehicles. Akio Toyoda, global president of Toyota Motor Corporation, said that the company plans to offer 30 BEV models in all segments, across the Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

By that time, Toyota plans to sell 3.5 million electric cars a year, and the company will invest $70 billion in electrified vehicles.

The room full of electric and hybrid concept vehicles was supported by Toyota. An electric pickup truck is tucked into a corner and is the most interesting. Toyota didn't reveal any details about this car, but it looks like it's a direct competitor to Rivian's R1T and Ford's upcoming F-150 Lightning, and with Toyota's expertise in making great pickups, it could be a very interesting car.

The car will probably not hit the market very soon. The Toyota bZ4X is an electric vehicle that will be available for pre-order next year. The company plans to launch an affordable electric car in China in late 2022.
