Curry is the new 3-point king.

The Golden State Warriors star guard became the all-time leader in 3-pointers Tuesday night against the New York Knicks when he knocked down the 2,974th 3-pointer of his career. Curry broke the record with a 28-foot shot from the right wing off a pass from Andrew Wiggins in the first quarter. The Warriors called a time out so that Curry could enjoy the moment.

Draymond Green gave a big hug to Curry as the players applauded him. The Madison Square Garden crowd gave him a rousing standing ovation as he handed the ball to his father, Dell. Curry went back to center court a few moments later to get a hug from Allen.

Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter this game has ever seen.

The Golden State Warriors will be in action on December 15, 2021.

Curry has tried to downplay the significance of the upcoming record, acknowledging how much it means to him. People close to him say they take pride in his accomplishments.

Dell Curry told the sports network that he couldn't explain it. My son is going to leave the game as the best shooter ever to play, even though I know how good Ray and Reggie were.

Allen and Miller were in attendance for Curry's record-breaking performance. The trio shared a few words and a group hug before the game.

Allen said during a conference call with Warriors beat reporters that he thinks people compare him to Reggie and other past shooters, but he really operates in a lane of his own.

Steve Kerr said earlier this season that Curry is the most joyful player he has ever been around. Curry's talent has helped carry the Warriors to three NBA titles, but it's his presence and leadership behind the scenes that teammates and coaches respect the most.

Kerr said that what he's done has completely redefined what a good shot is. The point guard position was redefined. You can see a lot of young players who are playing the game the same way as Steph, with skill and joy. It's amazing how much he's changed the game.

Curry is the early favorite to win his third career Most Valuable Player award. He has made a 3-pointer in every game since December of last year. His streak of 157 games with at least one 3-pointer is second only to his stretch of 13 games from Nov. 13, 2014, to Nov. 3, 2016

Curry and Kerr both said after Monday's win that there would be a sense of relief when Curry broke Allen's record, but as much as Curry has tried to enjoy the moment, he knew the weight of the record would eventually cause him to.

Curry said last week that he would talk about it when it happened. You're going to make me cry, bro.
