Florida State has agreed to a one-year contract extension with head football coach Mike Norvell, who will remain with the school through the 2026 season.

Norvell has a record of 8-13 in two seasons at FSU.

The Seminoles had an up-and-down campaign in which they lost to Notre Dame on the road to start the year. FSU defeated North Carolina and Miami.

The university lost a last-second heartbreaker to Jacksonville State, which finished its season with a record of 6-7.

FSU finished the year with a record of 5-5 in its final eight games after starting the year 0-4.

Norvell's original contract was for $26.5 million over six years.

The 40-year-old is in charge of a rebuild at Florida State. In his first year as head coach, the Texas native faced significant difficulties.

FSU only got three spring practices in the 2020 offseason before COVID-19 shut down operations. 75 percent of the team was made up of first- or second-year players.

Norvell had a great four years at Memphis before taking the FSU job. The Memphis team made it to the Cotton Bowl.

Florida State will look to get off to a good start when it hosts Duquesne.
