Eric Trump says 'we weren't smart enough to collude with Russia' in interview with former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler

In an upcoming interview, Eric Trump says that his family was too inexperienced and naive to be capable of what critics have accused the Trumps of in the past.

While his father was running for president, Donald Trump joked that he and the rest of the family didn't know a lot about politics.

The Russia investigation uncovered extensive contacts between the Trump campaign and Russians but not enough proof of a conspiracy to tilt the election in the former president's favor.

"We weren't smart enough to collude with Russia," Trump says at one point. We didn't know what we were doing. We did not know what a delegate was.

Trump told a story from the day of the Iowa caucuses, when his father lost in the GOP presidential primary.
I remember walking up to a caucus in Iowa and asking Jay if he knew what a caucus was. Trump said something.
Trump didn't know how he would convince voters to back his father over his rivals.

While Eric has ruled out any political ambitions of his own, his wife, Lara, considered running for a US Senate seat in North Carolina in 2022, but ultimately decided not to.

Eric is the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, while Lara is a Fox News contributor.
