The commissioners court in the county just north of Austin voted Tuesday to approve a $5 million settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit.
The settlement will be covered by the county's insurance.
An investigation by the Austin American-Statesman and the local station KVUE shows that police pursued Ambler after he didn't dim his headlights in the direction of oncoming traffic. J.J. Johnson followed Ambler for 22 minutes before he crashed his car north of downtown Austin. Johnson and Camden told Ambler to lay on his stomach and tasered him four times as he resisted. According to the report, he told them he couldn't breathe and had heart failure before they tasered him. They realized that he was not breathing after handcuffing him. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
