Qantas Launching Nonstop Flights To Rome

Qantas has just announced a new seasonal ultra long haul flight, which will only be the carrier's second destination in Europe.

Qantas is launching flights to Rome.

Between June 22 and October 6 of 2022, Qantas will operate a new service from Australia to Rome. The flight is intended to meet demand during the European holiday peak season. The flight between Perth and Rome will be one of the longest Qantas flights.

The current fastest travel time to Rome will be cut in half with the new service. Travelers will be able to fly into or out of Rome in one direction, or into or out of London in the other, if Qantas operates double daily flights between Perth and London next summer.

Alan Joyce describes a new service.

There has been great demand for our direct service from Perth to London and our new services to Delhi from Australia. The Pandemic is making non-stop flights between Australia and the rest of world even more desirable as we learn to live with it.

Italy is the largest market for us in continental Europe for people visiting family and friends from Australia and we think customers will love flying to one of the world's great cities to spend time with loved ones. After the restrictions of the past few years, it is the ideal time to refresh our international network.

It seems like this is for Australians who are looking to travel to Europe, rather than Europeans who are looking to travel to Australia.

Australians can finally leave the country in some cases, but Australia still isn't welcoming visitors.
This route is being operated during the peak travel period for Europe, rather than during the peak travel period for Australia.
It is fascinating to see an ultra long haul flight that is mostly for leisure demand, since that is not something we have historically seen.

The Qantas Boeing 787-9 is a business class.

The Rome inaugural flight will be aPoints Plane.

It is something that miles & points nerds will love. Qantas will operate the first flight as aPoints Plane as flights become bookable today. The idea is that every seat in the cabin will be available as an award seat. The catch is that this is only available for those booking through the Qantas frequent flyer program.

The inaugural June 22 flight from Rome will be applied to.

Qantas has operated a flight like this before, offering an A380 "Points Plane" back in 2019.

The Qantas Boeing 787-9 is a premium economy plane.

The bottom line.

Qantas will start a new nonstop flight between Perth and Rome in mid-2022. Many people will be interested in this service because it is intended to give Australians a direct way to get to Italy for a holiday.

Qantas launched Perth to London flights a few years back, but is still a new concept. I would have expected a Perth to Paris flight before a Perth to Rome flight.
