The NBA's Golden State Warriors are looking to make a splash in a new deal with FTX.
FTX is set to become the official platform and marketplace for the Warriors, according to a Tuesday press release. FTX will be the first international rights partner for the Warriors and will launch an official team in early 2022.
Brandon Schneider, president of the Warriors, said in a statement that "Cryptocurrency has a well-established worldwide community and is going to be a major part of the sports, media and entertainment industries." We realized our desire to innovate around cryptocurrencies integration and adoption, including the role NFTs play in global fan engagement after talking with FTX.
The Warriors and FTX will give one bitcoin to three different organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area that address educational equity.
This isn't the first time that the Warriors have broken ground for sports in the digital asset space.
In April, the Warriors became the first professional sports team to launch its own NFT collection, which included a number of editions of the team's championship rings. One of the team's NFTs sold for about $900,000.
Curry, the face of the Warriors franchise, bought a Bored Ape NFT in August for $180,000, making him the most expensive NFT in the world.
