Christie will focus on coaching.
Christie, who was a member of the British Olympic short track speed skating team, retired at the age of 31 but says her career in sport isn't over.
Christie, who has competed at three Winter Games, said she would reveal more about her next steps as an athlete soon, but for now she is focused on coaching.
The former world and European champion won more than 70 medals.
Christie wrote that this won't be the last he sees in sport.
I'm taking a different path with this new venture. I never achieved my goal so part of my heart will always be missing. I leave this sport knowing it's in good hands, with skaters capable of doing what I didn't.
I walked away with over 70 World Cup/European and world championship medals, and a fourth place at the Olympics, but only three of those medals are in team events. I set a world record.
I am a decorated athlete, but I am not an Olympian.
Christie had an ankle injury that affected her form during the World Cup season, but she still wanted to get a spot at the Winter Olympics.
She said on social media in November that her heart was shattered because she was set to miss out on qualification for the Games in Beijing.
More to come.
