Nike buys virtual shoe studio RTFKT as more big brands position themselves for metaverse push

After being formed by three friends in January 2020 as the COVID-19 outbreak was starting to take root worldwide, RTFKT has quickly gained a following in the NFT and sneaker worlds.

Clone X is a collection of 3-D avatars that are intended for use in virtual reality and augmented reality settings. Clone X was displayed at Harvey Nichols locations in London and Hong Kong.

Last month, Nike launched a free, 3-D space inside the Roblox gaming platform called "Nikeland." Nike won a patent in the year 2019.
