According to job listings spotted by 9to5Google, a team focused on building software for an "innovative augmented reality device" is being hired. Mark Lucovsky joined the company this week and is the leader of the team. Lucovsky co-authored the Windows NT operating system and worked at Meta developing an in-house alternative to Android to power the company's hardware.

The software components that control and manage the hardware on augmented reality products are being built by the team at the augmented reality OS. This is not the first time that the company has worked on augmented reality software. The company's Glass is currently built on the Linux operating system.

I became a Noogler this morning. The operating system team is led by me.

One job listing for a senior software engineer on the team states that they will be responsible for helping create compelling augmented reality experiences on highly-customized hardware platforms. There are other listings for developers that are focused on camera and input hardware.

Some of the positions are based in Waterloo, Canada. North, the company behind the smart glasses that were acquired by Google, is based here.

Between the acquisition and these open job positions, it looks like the company is serious about developing and releasing more augmented reality hardware. Apple is rumored to be releasing a mixed-reality headset as early as next year.
