Rams defensive back Jalen Ramsey returned to Los Angeles on a private jet after producing a positive COVID-19 test, while tight end Tyler Higbee was left to wonder if he had contracted the coronaviruses after a series of tests produced differing results.

The Rams were scrambling to make roster moves after Ramsey and Higbee joined three other teammates on the reserve/COVID-19 list, making them unavailable to play.

"My initial reaction was, 'You have to be s---ing me,'" McVay said. You don't replace those guys.

McVay was correct. His play makers are not replaceable. None of that mattered by the game's end.

After losing three of their previous four games, the Rams defeated the division-leading Cards 30-23 and are now only a game behind the Vikings in theNFC West.

The Rams improved to 9-4, while the Cards fell to 10-3.

"We're playing well, we're doing well," said defensive lineman Aaron Donald, who had three sacks and a tipped pass. We are not here. We have to do things to get us in a good position.

Matthew Stafford had a career night for the Rams, completing 23 of 30 passes for a career-high s289 yards and three touchdown.

Stafford said he felt good about his performance. "There were some things that you want back, but I felt like we managed the game really well."

Only three players since the merger have caught more than 123 yards and a touchdown in a game, and Cooper Kupp is one of them.

After catching his third touchdown pass in as many games, the eighth-year pro has recorded a touchdown reception in three straight games for the first time since 2015.

Beckham said it was great to be having fun. "This is a group of kids who love football."

Beckham had six catches for 77 yards and Van Jefferson had 2 catches for 58 yards.

Donald had a sack on the first and last plays of the game and Ernest Jones and Leonard Floyd each picked off a pass from Kyler Murray. The Rams scored on both of the takeaways.

Floyd said this was a must win. Our backs were against the wall.

The Rams were without five players due to the coronaviruses, which is the reason why they were shorthanded.

Donald said it was shocking that Ramsey and Higbee were late on the list. "Jalen sent a text to me, I told him we were going to hold it down for him."

Ramsey wished he could be at the game. I'm angry but I'm with the Rams! I feel normal.

Darrell Henderson, Rob Havenstein, and Dont'e Deayon were placed on the COVID list on Sunday.

Reserve tackle Joe Noteboom started in Havenstein's absence, and SonyMichel started in Henderson's absence.

The Rams will return to Los Angeles to play the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
