Donald Trump Jr. texted Mark Meadows during the January 6 riot begging him to have Trump make a speech to stop the riots

During a committee meeting, it was revealed that Donald Trump Jr. sent a text to his father's former chief of staff asking him to give a speech to stop the insurrection.
The vice chair of the January 6 select committee, Liz Cheney, presented several messages to the man.
Cheney said that Trump Jr. asked the former president to make a speech.
"He's got to condemn this immediately," Trump Jr. said. The Capitol Police are not doing enough.

I'm pushing it hard. I agree with you.

We need an address in the Oval Office. He has to leave. It has gotten out of hand, said Trump Jr.

The committee recommended that he be charged with criminal contempt for ending his cooperation.

The committee had previously received emails, texts, and other information relating to the insurrection, but that was before Meadows withdrew his cooperation with the investigation.

Cheney said that several Fox News hosts and other lawmakers begged him to have Trump make a speech.
Brian Kilmeade, a co-host of the morning show "Fox & Friends," sent a text to Meadows. "Destroying everything you have accomplished."

Insider previously reported that as the riot went on, Trump was enjoying watching his supporters assault the Capitol, but he didn't make a statement asking them to go home.
