Marvel's Kevin Feige:

With awards season upon us once again, Hollywood's bigwigs are making the rounds to promote their latest projects in hopes that they will bring home more than a few of the industry's coveted statues of recognition. The nominees for the Golden Globes were announced this week and WandaVision's Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are both in the running, which is sure to please Kevin Feige.

Feige thinks that the Academy still holds some bias against superhero films, so he wants to make another attempt at getting a trophy for one of his films. Feige shared some thoughts about the challenges that he feels are faced by the company when it tries to win awards.

Feige said that the genre bias that exists is why we are always at a deficit. I loved the moment when Black Panther was put aside and the work was recognized for its achievement. Feige believes that the film was successful because it was a larger project that was designed to introduce its central hero to a modern day audience. Feige wants the rest of Hollywood to understand that success.

Feige said that the team behind Shang-Chi did created something new that connected with audiences. The audience recognized it, and I would love to see all of the people who are telling their stories get recognized.

When you look at the similarities between Black Panther and Shang-Chi, you will see that both films are examples of a successful film studio finally coming around to the idea that the entire casts of color can and will lead their films to box office success. Feige seems to think that the path being nominated for Best Picture is the same as that of Black Panther.
