Former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin set to plead guilty in federal civil rights case for George Floyd killing

A still image from video shows a sentencing hearing for a former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted of murder in the death of George Floyd.

Chauvin will appear for a change of plea hearing on Wednesday in St. Paul, Minnesota, according to the Minneapolis federal court docket. When a person plans to plead guilty, hearings are held.

There was no indication that the other defendants were going to change their pleas.

The three men will go on trial in state court next year on criminal charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting manslaughter after they face trial on federal civil rights charges. They have not been found guilty in the state case.

The lead prosecutor in the case and Chauvin's defense lawyer did not respond to requests for comment on the change of plea hearing.
