Biden Order Should Make Filing Taxes, Renewing Passports Easier

President Joe Biden plans to sign an executive order Monday that will improve customer service infrastructure across 17 federal agencies, making it easier for Americans to do things like file taxes, renew their passport, manage student loans, change their address and more.

The fact sheet states that the order will direct government officials to make 36 customer service improvements across the federal government.

Older Americans will be able to claim Social Security benefits more easily and the government will implement online tools for filing federal taxes.

The order promises that increased use of technologies at airports will make check-in and security lines shorter.

Small business owners and farmers will find it easier to apply for loans and other SBA programs because of the order.

Other changes implemented through the order include improved services for changes of address, name changes, managing healthcare through Veterans Affairs, filing for natural disaster relief, managing benefits for low-income families, maternal healthcare, accessing telehealth services, grant applications for tribal communities and obtaining fishing permits.

The order promises to make USA.gov a digital front door for Americans to access government services.

35. The Internal Revenue Service, Citizenship and Immigration Services, the National Parks Service, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development are all directed to improve their services as part of the order.

According to the White House fact sheet, Monday's order is part of Biden's Management Agenda Vision that focuses on making government information easier to find and understand, and it is the most concrete action the administration has taken so far to address the president's stated commitment.
