The former Ohio State quarterback posted on social media that he will transfer to Texas.
Ewers spent one season at Ohio State before entering the transfer portal in December.
He was a five-star quarterback and the top signal caller in the class of 2022. After the Longhorns fired coach Tom Herman, Ewers backed off his commitment and went to Ohio State.
He reclassified to the class of 2021 to enroll a year early at Ohio State to take advantage of a few name, image and likeness deals that were presented to him as a high schooler. The state of Texas prohibits high school prospects from making money off of their name, image and likeness, so Ewers left high school and joined the Ohio State football team.
After joining Ohio State, Ewers signed an NIL contract for over a million dollars with GT Sports Marketing for autographs and was negotiated by his agents at Sportstars and Rubicon. He landed a contract with a local car dealership, as well as other NIL deals.
Ewers was a quarterback at Carroll High School in Texas, where he threw for 4,003 yards, 45 touchdown and three picks in the season of 2019. Ewers had 1,221 yards passing, 15 touchdown passes, and two picks in four games, but his season was cut short.
He didn't throw a pass for Ohio State this season as he was a redshirt freshman, but he was a finalist for the Heisman.
With four years of eligibility remaining, Ewers will join Texas and will be able to compete for the starting job with the Longhorns in Year 2 of Steve Sarkisian's tenure.
The Longhorns finished seventh in the Big 12 and are not headed to a bowl game.
