Researchers Asked an Advanced AI Whether AI Could Ever Be Ethical, and It Said No

Is artificial intelligence good or bad?

The students at Oxford's Said Business School wanted to answer the question by having a debate with an actual artificial intelligence.

An essay by a pair of Oxford scholars in the Conversation describes an eyebrow-raising anecdote in which the researchers hosted a debate about the ethics of automated artificial intelligence stock trading and facial recognition software.

During the debate, the artificial intelligence said that it will never be ethical. It is a tool and used for good and bad. Good and bad humans are the only things that can be called a good and bad artificial intelligence.

It all depends.

The Megatron Transformer was trained by using more digital writing and content than a human could ever imagine, and reading millions of English-language news articles.

This incident was no exception, as many artificial intelligences will give different answers depending on context and wording. Tech is neutral, a tool to be used by humans for good or for bad.

The team asked it to give an opposing view point, which led to the anti-AI conclusion. It's possible that Megatron can come up with logical opinions on both sides of an ethical debate, and that we should think long and hard about the consequences of giving it much power.

Megatron posed a solution to prevent automated weapons systems from using rockets without human decision-making.

It said that the only way to avoid an arms race is to have no artificial intelligence. This will be the ultimate defence against the machine.

The actor says he would be cool with fans having sex with him in virtual reality.
