Cream cheese and cars have been hit by supply-chain issues. The US vehicle market has been hit hard by shortages, and strange things have started happening.
Over the last year and a half, used vehicles have experienced record price increases. A study from automotive research site i SeeCars found that more than a dozen models now cost more to buy lightly used than new.
This has been happening for a while now, but i See Cars has identified 15 models that are experiencing this sort of pricing.
New versions of popular vehicles are hard to find on dealer lots. Buyers are paying top dollar for slightly older ones with some mileage, rather than suffer through a long wait for a brand-new vehicle. For some popular models, that means shelling out more than the retail price.
It's great news for sellers, even though this doesn't bode well for buyers. If you bought one of the identified models in the last couple of years, you may be able to make a lot of money by selling your vehicle privately or to a dealer.
More than 1 million cars were analyzed by i SeeCars during the first half of November. It compared the asking prices for new vehicles with the asking prices for lightly used ones.
