On his way to a big-time win in New York, Vasiliy was knocked down by Richard Commey. (0:46)

Richard Commey was in big trouble after being floored in Round 7. The marquee fight continued despite his pleas to stop it.

After the fight at New York's Madison Square Garden, which he won in a unanimous decision, he continued his march toward another shot at boxing's lightweight title.

Both fighters seemed surprised when the decision was announced, as the scores were 118-110, 118-110, and 118-110.

"It was very hard for him, I saw his situation, it was very hard for him," said the native of Ukrainian. I said, 'Hey, stop the fight.' He is a warrior. We show for people 12 great rounds because he has a big heart.

"We have a lot of great fighters in this weight division, so we can organize a lot of great fights in the future," he said.

George Kambosos Jr., who upset Teofimo Lopez for the undisputed lightweight championship two weeks ago, would be the greatest fight of all time for Lomachenko. Lopez had just won an upset victory over Lomachenko.

With a second fight against Lopez no longer in his sights, he will travel to Australia to fight Kambosos. If Kambosos picks him, that is. There were four bouts in the 135-pound division within 15 days. After Kambosos' victory in New York, he traveled to Las Vegas to watch his opponent.

The Australian was in Los Angeles for Gervonta Davis' win.

"I need this chance for the undisputed title," he said. I will fight him wherever I need to. I need all four belts.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist appeared in vintage form, using angles and exceptional footwork to find openings to deliver punches. The punches never seemed to affect him despite the many hard shots he absorbed.

Commey was troubled by the shots of Lomachenko. "Loma" showed off his improved inside game by taking apart the Commey.

In the seventh round, a sweeping left slammed into Commey's chin and dropped him to the canvas. Instead of closing in for the dramatic finish, he motioned to the trainer to save Commey.

Commey seemed ready to go after the onslaught of punches. Commey's legs looked bent, like he lost his second-round TKO to Lopez two years ago. But Commey made it out of the round, and with it, the chance to stand out among the lightweights.

Commey seemed to clear his head by the time Round 8 started. The former titleholder was never in serious danger as he was 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217 800-273-3217

Commey, who was ranked ninth by the sports network, threw more punches than his opponent, yet he was outlanded by a wide margin. Even though he lost, Commey improved his stock and helped wipe away the image of Lopez's domination to win the title.

He is trying to get past his loss to Lopez. In June, Masayoshi Nakatani was stopped by the No. 2 lightweight in the world, after surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. He fought Lopez with the injury and beat him by a better performance than he had against Nakatani.

He failed to outdo Commey, and it's not clear if the performance was enough to get Kambosos into the ring. There are other attractive fights at lightweight, but there is no interest in a proposed fight with 130-pound champion Shakur Stevenson. A fight with Davis would be a big deal.

Even if he fights someone else, he is still one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He's one step closer to a shot at the undisputed championship because the mission remains the same.
