Young ran away with the award in a ceremony in New York City on Saturday night, after saving his best for last.
Young, a sophomore and former five-star prospect from California, entered the season with high expectations as the presumptive choice to replace former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
During a coaching convention in Texas this summer, Alabama coach Nick Saban drew even more attention when he let it be known that Young, before ever starting a game, would earn six figures in name, image and likeness deals, which became available to college athletes for the first time this year.
Young lived up to the hype, beginning with a four-touchdown performance in the season opener. 14 Miami went on the road to beat the then-No. Two weeks later, 11 Florida. Despite being behind a shaky offensive line, he excelled with his ability to keep calm under pressure, evade the pass rush and find his receivers downfield. He was an accurate passer and didn't throw an interception until Week 4 against Southern Miss.
Young had 43 passing touchdown and only four interceptions, which was good for a win in the Heisman. He ran for three scores.
Young sealed his win with a dominating performance in the SEC championship game a week later.
Young and Alabama trailed 10-3 at the end of the fourth quarter and star receiver Jameson Williams was ejected for targeting in the first half. Backed up against his own 3-yard line, Young led the team on a 12-play, 97-yard drive, which he capped off by throwing a game-tying, 28-yard touchdown pass to freshman wideout Ja'CoreyBrooks, who had only two catches entering the game.
Young threw the two-point conversion to John Metchie III in the fourth overtime to keep the Tide's playoff hopes alive. Alabama will play Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl Classic.
Young won two awards, the best player in college football and the best quarterback in the nation.
Alabama became the sixth school to win the award in back-to-back seasons when they won the Heisman. Smith won it last year.
The Tide's other winners are running backs.
Michigan defensive lineman and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Aidan Hutchinson finished second in this year's voting, followed by Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett and Ohio State quarterback.
Will Anderson was a fifth-place vote getter in the voting for the Heisman, missing out on a chance to win the award for the second year in a row. Anderson led the country in sacks and tackles for loss as a sophomore.
Jones was third in the Heisman voting last year, behind Smith and Lawrence.
