Laura Shepard Churchley's father was the first American to go into space.

60 years after her father's flight, the daughter of Alan Shepard has blasted into space.

Laura Shepard Churchley was one of six people who made the trip on a commercial spaceship.

The passengers were able to experience zero gravity after the craft reached low orbit.

Blue Origin launched the third flight in the space tourism market.

The first American in space was the father of Ms Shepard Churchley, who died in 1998.

She was accompanied on the flight by a number of paying customers, including a former football star and Good Morning America anchor.

It was the first time that all six seats on the New Shepard rocket had been filled.

The flight was delayed for two days due to strong winds, but finally took off from the company's launch facility on Saturday.

The tourists were greeted by Mr Bezos in the Texas desert after the flight followed a similar path to previous rockets launched by the company.

It took just over 10 minutes to reach a low altitude of around 100 km and was five minutes shorter than Alan Shepard's first flight.

His daughter brought along a small piece of his capsule, as well as some souvenirs from his later trip to the lunar surface aboard Apollo 14.

Ms Shepard Churchley said that she thought about her father coming down and that he didn't get to enjoy any of what she was getting to enjoy. He was working. He had to do it on his own. I went for the ride.

Last month, Prince William criticized the activities of space tourism companies like Blue Origin, warning that their activities were giving rise to increased "climate anxiety" among younger generations.
